The Art of Brom is It's an amazing collection of more than 20 years of work. It's great that the extra books are selling outside of Kickstarter. That says something about how well his work is regarded. The target was $12,000 and in the end $235,000 plus was raised with over 2000 plus backers. Interestingly, this book is from a Kickstarter project in 2012. I feel that some bits in the middle of the timeline is missing, probably because most of the paintings don't come with additional commentary. He also talks about those three written books. There are a few pages on his childhood, art schooling days and early career. It also includes the paintings from his written books The Child Thief, Plucker and Krampus: The Yule Lord. There are 208 pages so there's easily more than a hundred paintings, all of them character based art in his dark fantasy style. The bulk of them are printed one of each page in this large hardcover artbook. You can see that even back in the early years, his paintings are already quite refined, and he gets better over the years.Īll the paintings are wonderfully reproduced in high resolution. It's a retrospective looking back at his past artworks, from the 90s to the present day. So Brom has finally released an artbook collecting the work from his career. I highly recommend this book if you like sketchbooks, travelogues or just good art.more I actually met him in Singapore, and saw his A4 spiral sketchbook which is like a printed book itself. The sketches are organized generally by locations and other topics, such as his son, teaching career, oil paintings and others. It's a book that you should peruse slowly so as not to miss any details. It's very inspiring to learn about his life story and see where he is today. They also come with quite a lot of commentary. There's sort of a cartoon-like simplicity to them but if you look closely they are actually quite detailed. The paper is quite good, but the paperback cover is warping already after one day.Ībout 80% of the book are his sketches, mostly coloured, there are some oil paintings, figure drawings and the rest are filled with either his very early or current comic strips. This book features selected art and sketches from his over fifty sketchbooks, with the majority of the artworks featured coming from the last 5 years. Steven Reddy has been drawing since 1979.
